Why there is no price list
Every object starts as a specific part with a specific condition, and finishes in a specific room. A single number would be either wrong or padded. Here is what a quotation actually contains.
01The part is not a variable, it is the subject
Conventional furniture is priced from a bill of materials that does not change. Here the material is a single reclaimed component whose condition is discovered, not chosen. Two idlers of the same nominal type can differ by many hours of stabilisation depending on how they were worn and how they were removed. Pricing that as a fixed figure means either quoting the worst case to everyone, or quoting the best case and renegotiating later. Neither is honest.
02What actually moves the number
Four things. The condition of the specific part and the hours of stabilisation it needs. The glass — size, tempering, lamination and whether it is clear or smoked. The base and fixings, which change with the part’s geometry. And transport, which for a heavy object depends far more on access than on distance: a ground-floor delivery with parking is a different job from a fourth floor with a half-landing turn.
A list price for a one-off part is a guess with a decimal point.
03What a quotation contains
A quotation names the object and the specific part allocated to it, the finished dimensions, the glass specification, the edition status, the lead time, the price ex works EU, and a transport estimate based on the access information you provide. It states its own validity period. Nothing is contingent on a later conversation, and no figure moves after acceptance unless you change the specification.
04Why ex works, and what it means for you
Prices are quoted ex works EU, meaning the object priced at our door with transport handled separately and transparently. Bundling delivery into a headline price would mean averaging: someone with a lift and street parking would subsidise someone on a fourth floor with a narrow stair. Separating them keeps both figures honest and lets you compare transport options, including your own shipper.
05How to get a real number quickly
Send the object, the destination and the access situation — floor, lift, staircase turns, parking. That is enough for a firm price and a realistic transport estimate within two working days. If you are still choosing between objects, say so; comparative figures for two or three are quicker to produce than most people expect, and comparing them properly is usually more useful than a list would have been.
